[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House has decided to conduct intensive inspections to establish discipline within the public service.
The Blue House's Office of Civil Affairs announced on the afternoon of the 22nd that it held an emergency meeting of the "Public Service Discipline Council (Office of Civil Affairs, Prime Minister's Office, Board of Audit and Inspection, Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission)," which was formed in January 2019, chaired by the Anti-Corruption Secretary.
The Blue House explained, "This is a critical time when the entire government is making every effort to overcome COVID-19, which threatens the lives and safety of the people, and to eradicate real estate corruption. However, recently, cases of alleged misconduct by some public officials have occurred, making a comprehensive review of such types of public service misconduct urgently necessary."
At today's meeting, the Office of Civil Affairs (Public Service Inspection Team), the Prime Minister's Office (Public Service Management Office), and the Board of Audit and Inspection (Special Investigation Bureau) agreed to divide roles and conduct intensive inspections on abuse of authority in personnel matters and involvement in vested interests by officials of central government ministries, local governments, and public institutions.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission will support these intensive inspections by operating a public service misconduct reporting center during a designated reporting period and will cooperate organically.
