[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] As spring arrives, men visiting department stores are driving growth in the fashion category. This year, the growth rate of men's luxury clothing and accessories is higher than that of women, drawing attention.
Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 20th that the men's luxury category grew by 68.2% from January to April 16 this year. From March to April 16, it grew by 102.3% compared to the previous year. In particular, Shinsegae Department Store's men's luxury category growth rate was 106.1% in March and 102.2% in April, higher than the general luxury category, which is centered on women's clothing and accessories, with growth rates of 93.6% in March and 79.4% in April. The men's contemporary category, which is as popular as luxury goods, also showed double-digit growth rates.
Men's spring makeovers also led to a 55.9% growth in Shinsegae Department Store's overall men's fashion performance from March to April 16 this year.
Statistics also prove that spring is the season for men. In fact, Cheil Worldwide analyzed 100 million behavioral data points of people in their 20s to 40s over the past March and found that men are more emotional about spring than women. Among spring-related search terms, the most popular for both men and women were fashion-related keywords such as 'spring coordination' and 'spring jacket.' Among them, men (40.5%) searched for spring fashion more than women (37.5%).
Shinsegae is further strengthening its men's specialty halls in the first half of this year to capture male customers who have emerged as major spenders in department stores. The Centum City branch launched the global luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana Uomo store in January. This is the first store introduced outside the metropolitan area since Dolce & Gabbana directly entered the Korean market. On the 15th, the Burberry men's store was renewed and reopened, and next month, the Dutch premium suit brand 'Suit Supply' will be introduced.

Kim Youngseop, Executive Director of Shinsegae Department Store's Merchandise Headquarters, said, "With more men dressing up for spring, they are driving sales in luxury and contemporary categories," adding, "We will lead customers' lifestyles by presenting various content for men who have fashion sense and self-directed consumption comparable to women."
