Guri City Launches Efforts to Attract Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation
"Emphasizing Gyeonggi-do as a Hub for Balanced Development, Excellent Geographical Location and Accessibility"
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] Guri City in Gyeonggi Province has initiated efforts to attract the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation.
On the 16th, Guri City announced, "On the 12th, we submitted an application for the selection of the main office location to Gyeonggi Province to attract the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation."
It added, "Due to various overlapping regulations such as the Capital Region Readjustment Planning Act and the Special Measures Act on the Designation and Management of Development Restriction Zones, self-sustainability has been insufficient, making the attraction of the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation an urgent matter."
The city emphasized that Guri, located at the exact center of Gyeonggi Province and bordering the metropolitan area, is an optimal location with a well-connected transportation network including Guri-Anseong, Guri-Pocheon, the Metropolitan Area 1st Ring Expressway, Subway Lines 8 and 6, and GTX lines, enabling quick access to central Seoul and all of Gyeonggi Province.
It also presented concrete plans for large-scale urban development projects that can be linked with the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation, such as the (tentatively named) Han River Riverside Urban Development Project and the E-commerce Logistics Complex Project.
In particular, the application included the results of an online survey reflecting citizens' wishes to attract the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation to Guri City, along with a mobile phone signature list and a provincial residents' petition.
Additionally, a joint statement by Guri City and the Guri City Council, as well as a proposal from the Guri City Council advocating for the attraction, were attached to the application to express strong determination.
Support for the application came from local members of the National Assembly, regional volunteer organizations, civic groups, the city government employees' union, and employees of the Guri Agricultural and Marine Products Corporation.
Mayor Ahn Seung-nam of Guri City stated, "Guri has excellent environmental conditions such as geographic location and accessibility. Attracting the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation to Guri will revitalize the stagnant economy and fulfill its role as a center for balanced development in Gyeonggi Province by restoring the city's self-sustainability."
