The "Smart Unmanned Rental Public Bicycle Pilot Project" aims to promote the use of bicycles, an eco-friendly and low-carbon green transportation mode.
The "Smart Bicycle" project reflects the results of the "Gijang-gun Public Bicycle Introduction Plan Study" completed in October 2019, planning to install 6 to 8 stations along the 12 km Jogwangcheon bicycle path on the river course (Jukhyang Park to Imrang Beach).
A total of 50 to 100 bicycles will be placed at the stations, and the project is designed to use a QR code rental system that minimizes direct contact amid the COVID-19 situation, allowing safe and convenient rentals.
The public bicycle pilot system is scheduled to be completed within this year and will begin trial operation from January 2022.
Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, proudly stated, "This project utilizes our county's tourist resources such as Jogwangcheon and Imrang Beach, promotes bicycle use, reduces fine dust, improves residents' health, and creates a pleasant urban environment."
He also said, "I hope the public bicycles become a small source of vitality for residents who have been confined indoors and outdoors due to COVID-19," and added, "I hope that in the future, Gijang-gun's public bicycles will be loved more than Seoul's public bicycle system 'Ddareungi' by both residents and tourists."
