Gimhae City Starts Pfizer Vaccinations for 75 and Older Today... 7,020 Doses Administered
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 15th that it will begin administering the Pfizer vaccine to seniors aged 75 and older who have agreed to pre-vaccination at the COVID-19 Vaccination Center 1 (Cultural and Sports Center).
The city has been allocated 7,020 doses of the vaccine. Currently, consent is being obtained from vaccination candidates in each eup, myeon, and dong (township, town, and neighborhood), and those who do not consent will either be excluded from vaccination or pushed to a later priority group, with vaccination possible after November.
Vaccination will also be postponed in cases where severe worsening of underlying diseases is expected, mobility is difficult, communication is challenging, or acute symptoms such as fever (37.5℃) are present.
Each eup, myeon, and dong administrative welfare center supports the pre-vaccination steps (verification of candidates, scheduling, notification, transportation, and confirmation). After confirming the seniors’ willingness to be vaccinated and collecting consent for personal information provision, they are collectively registered in the Integrated Vaccination Management System, and vaccinations proceed in order.
The target population for the second quarter in the area is approximately 86,000 people. Since vaccination locations and vaccines differ depending on the target group, the public health center will provide guidance in sequence.
This month, about 500 people including special education workers, health teachers in kindergartens, elementary and middle schools, specialized staff for children with disabilities at daycare centers, and nursing personnel will be vaccinated first.
In May, about 38,000 seniors aged 65 to 74 will be vaccinated, and in June, about 13,000 people including caregivers for the disabled and elderly, teachers at kindergartens, daycare centers, and elementary schools (grades 1-2), police officers, firefighters, and military personnel will be targeted.
General citizens will be able to receive vaccinations from July at regional vaccination centers and designated medical institutions depending on vaccine supply conditions.
In the first quarter, 11,043 people who agreed to vaccination among workers and patients under 65 at 36 nursing hospitals and 12 nursing homes, as well as first-line COVID-19 responders, were vaccinated.

Mayor Heo Seong-gon said, “In a situation where the fourth wave of COVID-19 is a concern, those who do not get vaccinated will be pushed to later priority groups and face difficulties in forming immunity, so we ask for cooperation to ensure vaccination at the designated time.” He added, “We will carefully monitor seniors aged 75 and older for any adverse reactions.”
