Why Did Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, Go 'Jupging' at Seokchon Lake with New Employees?
Earth Day (April 22) Commemoration: 'Jupging Sports Event' Held at Seokchon Lake on the 19th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold a plogging event at Seokchon Lake on April 19th to commemorate Earth Day on April 22nd.
'Plogging' is an eco-friendly activity that combines 'picking up trash' and 'jogging,' involving walking or running in a certain area while collecting litter. Recently, as awareness of environmental protection has increased, it has become a global trend because it allows people to protect their health while also protecting the environment.
Accordingly, to mark the 51st Earth Day on April 22nd and to keep pace with the global trend of transitioning to a carbon-neutral society, the district has organized the plogging event.
About 30 participants, including Mayor Park Seong-su and newly appointed employees this year, will attend the event. After a performance commemorating Earth Day at 10 a.m. on the Seohosu waterside stage of Seokchon Lake, participants will run about 3 km around Seokchon Lake and the Bangi Matgol area, collecting discarded trash in every corner to take the lead in environmental protection.
In addition, the district declared its commitment to overcoming the climate crisis by attending the 'Climate Crisis Emergency Declaration Ceremony' in June last year, and in September, it became the first autonomous district in Seoul to establish a comprehensive carbon neutrality plan. According to the plan, efforts are focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.
Currently, 40 representative projects are being sequentially implemented, including planting 2 million trees throughout the district by 2022, distributing reusable containers for delivery, operating the Songpa Sharing Power Plant, and recycling fallen leaves. The district is also monitoring progress and discovering new projects through the Carbon Neutrality Promotion Task Force.
In September, a carbon neutrality symposium will be held by inviting external experts.
