On the 13th, SK Broadband announced that it will carry out the ‘GoGo Challenge,’ an environmental protection campaign in which members participate directly. The purpose is to practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in daily life.
The GoGo Challenge is an environmental protection campaign launched by the Ministry of Environment in January this year. It is conducted in a relay format where participants pledge to reduce the use of plastics and disposable products and then nominate the next participants.
Among various ESG management ideas, SK Broadband focused on the advantage of the GoGo Challenge, which allows any employee to voluntarily participate in daily life. The emphasis is on each member freely strengthening their commitment to environmental protection at home and work and practicing it together.
Choi Jin-hwan, CEO of SK Broadband, took the lead as the first participant in the GoGo Challenge. He said, “ESG management is not something grand. Small changes in daily habits are important.”
He then nominated 10 internal members, including Yoon Se-hong, the labor union chairman, as the next participants. The nominated members will each nominate the next participant weekly, continuing the campaign in a relay format.
To support strong commitment and change among members, SK Broadband also provides environmental protection practice items. They offer recycled PET bottle shopping bags made by the social enterprise Woosisan and Happy Habit tumblers to reduce plastic consumption.
SK Broadband has designated 2021 as the inaugural year of ESG management and is implementing various eco-friendly policies. Starting with the Yeoju Satellite Center, it plans to convert the power needed at business sites to eco-friendly energy, and in December last year, it joined ‘RE100’ for the first time in Korea along with seven SK Group affiliates. A sustainability report detailing ESG management achievements is also scheduled to be released in the first half of the year.
