Suncheon City to Fully Implement 'Safe Speed 5030' Starting from the 17th
Urban Main Roads Speed Limit 50 km/h, Side Streets Speed Limit 30 km/h
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 9th that from the 17th, when the guidance period for the Safe Speed 5030 policy ends, speed limits on major roads and side streets in urban areas will be fully enforced.
The 'Safe Speed 5030' policy limits speed to 50 km/h on major roads in urban areas and 30 km/h on side streets such as residential areas where pedestrian safety is emphasized, in order to reduce the likelihood and severity of traffic accidents and to protect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians.
The city, together with the Suncheon Police Station, has maintained 774 facilities including speed and safety signs in urban areas and 1,188 road surface markings, expanded 22 speed cameras, and has been continuously promoting awareness among citizens.

A city official emphasized, "Reducing speed by 5% decreases fatalities by 20% and injuries by 10%," and added, "We ask for the active participation and compliance with regulations from all citizens to prevent unfortunate incidents caused by traffic accidents."
