Jongno-gu Produces AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) Content for Bukaksan Historical and Cultural Resources
District Office, Presidential Security Service, Cultural Heritage Administration, and SK Telecom Sign MOU to Produce Historical and Cultural AR·VR Content for Bukaksan Area... Develop Cultural Interpretation Characters for Lively Explanations and Provide Location-Based Augmented Information Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) signed a business agreement on the 6th with the Presidential Security Service, the Capital Defense Command, SK Telecom, and the Cultural Heritage Administration to collaborate on the production of AR and VR content utilizing the historical and cultural resources of Bukaksan Mountain.
This AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) content production aims to coincide with the completion of the government pledge to fully open the Bukaksan area, researching and uncovering the rich historical and cultural resources of Bukaksan to inform more citizens.
Through this, not only will the hidden stories of Bukaksan, opening after half a century, be effectively conveyed, but continuous support will be provided to establish it as a destination for historical excursions.
The partner organizations aim to complete content production by March next year. Jongno-gu and the Cultural Heritage Administration will collaborate to provide historical verification and necessary materials for content production around Bukaksan, while the Presidential Security Service, as the overall management agency for the Bukaksan opening project, will handle various administrative supports and filming permits.
The Capital Defense Command will provide on-site support activities such as access coordination, security maintenance, guidance, and military operational review of the produced materials. SK Telecom will be responsible for content planning, development, service operation, and maintenance.
The AR and VR content production will cover the overall historical and cultural aspects of the Bukaksan area. Cultural interpretation characters that harmonize with Bukaksan, Inwangsan Mountain, and the Blue House will be developed, and by utilizing these characters, vivid explanations of lesser-known historical and cultural aspects are expected to be delivered.
Using augmented reality to stimulate citizens' interest, fun content that anyone from young to old can enjoy will also be introduced, such as restoration of cultural heritage themes and taking photos with kings and queens.
Additionally, location-based technology will be used to provide augmented information services containing detailed explanations of cultural heritage sites, as well as a function to identify one’s location for SOS calls in emergencies, aiming to respond to various safety incidents.
