Seoul Childcare Comprehensive Support Center Develops Content to Present Proper Childcare Methods During COVID-19
‘Online Dad Class’ 20 Videos, Each 15 Minutes Long
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 9th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will develop and distribute the ‘Online Dad School’ and ‘Multiple Children Parenting Guidebook’ for citizens who are concerned about proper parenting methods as the time spent raising children at home has increased due to COVID-19.
The Seoul Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, which supports and manages daycare centers in Seoul and provides childcare support services for home care, developed 20 video contents of the ‘Online Dad School,’ each about 15 minutes long, and a booklet titled ‘It’s Hard to Raise Multiple Children but I Want to Be a Good Parent’ for parents of multiple young children.
The ‘Online Dad School’ features 15-minute videos containing essential content needed to strengthen parenting capabilities, allowing participation even during commuting times using public transportation.
Through a survey targeting fathers, topics reflecting fathers’ needs such as preventing media overdependence, playing with children, timely education, and communication with children were selected, and online lectures were produced with experts on each topic. The lectures include content such as ?Forming Proper Habits for Our Child ?Parenting Coaching by Attachment Types ?Respectful Discipline to Boost Self-Esteem ?Managing Parenting Stress in Infancy ?Understanding Children’s Behavior and Emotions ?Protecting Children Immersed in Media ?Raising Multiple Children Under One Roof ?When Timely Education, Not Early Education, Is Needed.
The Multiple Children Parenting Guidebook was structured into three main themes?‘Parents’ Self-Understanding,’ ‘Proper Parenting Methods,’ and ‘Various Cases of Raising Multiple Children’?based on opinions collected through Focus Group Interviews (FGI) about common parenting difficulties experienced by parents of multiple children. Using illustrations and comics centered on each theme, the guidebook helps parents acquire a proper understanding and methods for raising multiple children.
The booklet will be distributed free of charge through the Seoul Metropolitan Government and district childcare comprehensive support centers, as well as the Seoul Green Toy Library. It will also be announced through home newsletters of daycare centers located in Seoul.
