At 11 p.m. on the 7th, Park announced his victory speech at the People Power Party election counting situation room in Busan. According to the National Election Commission, as of 11:09 p.m. that day, the vote counting rate for the Busan mayoral by-election was 46.46%, with Park receiving 63.03% of the votes.
Park said, "Great citizens of Busan, thank you for your overwhelming support," adding, "I do not believe your passionate support is because I am outstanding or because the People Power Party is doing well. I will keep in mind that if we become arrogant and dogmatic, the heavy judgment of public opinion can always be directed at us."
He continued, "I sincerely offer my condolences to the women who suffered throughout the election period as the newly elected mayor of Busan." This Busan mayoral by-election was held after former mayor Oh Keo-don resigned due to a sexual misconduct scandal.
