Gyeonggi Office of Education Promotes Policy Research for School Safety Accident Prevention
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is conducting a policy study to establish preventive measures for school safety accidents by type, becoming the first among metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide to do so.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education announced on the 7th that it will carry out a policy study with the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute from April to September to analyze school safety accidents that occur annually by type and to prepare effective improvement measures.
The main research topics include ▲ categorization of school safety accidents ▲ analysis of causes and preparation of preventive measures by type ▲ improvement of the school safety accident reporting system ▲ preparation of design improvements for school facilities to prevent risk factors.
In addition, the Gyeonggi Office of Education will operate a dedicated team for preventing school facility safety accidents, composed of safety officers and internal and external experts on school facilities.
The dedicated team plans to explore and propose safety management measures reflecting the unique characteristics of school sites from April to August.
The main activities of the dedicated team include ▲ survey on safety awareness of school site members ▲ measures to improve safety awareness of school members ▲ ways to enhance efficiency of school safety tasks ▲ analysis and proposal of improvements for safety risk factors in school facilities.
The results of the policy study and the proposals from the dedicated team will be reviewed and coordinated by departments and finalized as the "School Facility Safety Accident Prevention Policy Improvement Plan" in September.
It will also be reflected in next year's comprehensive school safety management plan of the Gyeonggi Office of Education.

Choi Bok-yoon, head of the School Safety Planning Division at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, emphasized, "Through this policy study and the operation of the dedicated team, we will clearly analyze the causes of school safety accidents and prepare safety measures that can be practically felt at school sites."
