Naver and Lucoms System Collaborate on Smart Device Development Including Whale Book
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver and Lucoms System are jointly developing smart devices based on the ‘Whale Space’ platform, including the ‘Whalebook’.
On the 6th, Kim Hyo, Whale Lead at Naver, and Cho Changje, CEO of Lucoms System, signed a business agreement for the joint development and expansion of devices linked to the Whale Space platform.
The Whalebook is a laptop-type computer equipped with Whale Space, a browser-based education platform, optimized for smart education environments that conduct video classes or utilize digital textbooks.
It supports a service environment that allows login through Naver accounts or Whale Space accounts, and Whalebook users can access various services through web apps.
Under this business agreement, Lucoms System will be responsible for device development, while Naver will develop the Whale Space platform to be compatible with the device and handle maintenance by quickly updating necessary functions reflecting feedback from educational sites. Additionally, the two companies will seek business opportunities for further cooperation to expand smart education.
As many educational sites have recently adopted the Whale Space platform, once the Whalebook is released, it is expected that synergy between educational devices and platforms will be maximized in various educational environments.
Lead Kim said, “The Whalebook, currently under development with the goal of release within the year, is an education-optimized device that actively reflects the necessary functions and opinions from the field that Naver has identified through communication with domestic educational sites,” adding, “We will continue to collaborate with various competitive companies to create digital innovation in education.”
