Contributing to Closing the Gap in Elementary After-School Care... Providing Care Services Such as Homework Help, Sending to Academies, and Experiential Programs Regardless of Income
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) has opened two additional Our Neighborhood Care Centers.
Guro-gu stated on the 6th, "To reduce the childcare burden on dual-income families, we are establishing 'Our Neighborhood Care Centers' in areas with high demand for care," adding, "We have set up Our Neighborhood Care Centers in Gaebong 2-dong and Guro 3-dong and began operations on the 1st of this month."
'Our Neighborhood Care Center' is an after-school care program for elementary school students conducted through cooperation between Seoul City and autonomous districts. It provides universal and continuous care services regardless of parents' income levels. It has greatly contributed to reducing care gaps during the COVID-19 situation.
On the 1st, Guro-gu opened new Our Neighborhood Care Centers in Gaebong 2-dong and Guro 3-dong. As a result, the total number of Our Neighborhood Care Centers operated by the district increased to 15.
The 'Gaebong Integrated Our Neighborhood Care Center' located in Gaebong 2-dong is situated on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Forest Kindergarten (35, Gaebong-ro 18-gil). It covers an area of 302㎡ and has a capacity of 30 children, making it the largest care center in Guro-gu.
The 'Guro 3-dong Our Neighborhood Care Center' was established on the 2nd floor of the Guro Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (93, Digital-ro 31-gil) with an area of 96㎡. It has a capacity of 20 children.
At Our Neighborhood Care Centers, various care services such as homework assistance and sending children to academies, as well as diverse experiential programs including reading, art, and physical education, are provided.
Free meals are also offered at the 'Gaebong Integrated Our Neighborhood Care Center.'
The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the 'Gaebong Integrated Our Neighborhood Care Center' and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the 'Guro 3-dong Our Neighborhood Care Center,' with flexible adjustments depending on the COVID-19 situation.

A Guro-gu official said, "We are striving to create a childcare environment where parents can entrust their children with peace of mind," and added, "We will continue to do our best to strengthen care services to realize 'Guro, a great place to raise children.'"
Meanwhile, Guro-gu also operates the 'Guro-type All-day Care Centers.'
The 'Guro-type All-day Care Centers' utilize community facilities such as small libraries and village vitality centers to enable parents and neighbors to care for children.
Each center serves about 20 children and provides basic care such as sending children to academies and homework assistance, as well as various programs including arts and physical activities.
