[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT announced on the 5th that it held the completion ceremony for the first cohort of the non-face-to-face learning mentoring program ‘Raenseon Yahak’ at KT Square located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

The event was attended by KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon, university student mentors, and representatives of mentees' parents. The ceremony connected 100 mentors who participated in the mentoring program via video call to share the achievements of the past six months and encourage each other.

Raenseon Yahak is an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) project that provided learning mentoring through KT’s educational platform for university students and middle school students facing difficulties due to COVID-19. From October to March, a total of 100 mentors and 300 mentees participated, conducting learning sessions in a 1-to-3 ratio. Through Raenseon Yahak, KT helped fill the learning gap for youth and supported the economic independence of university students.

According to KT’s internally conducted ‘Raenseon Yahak Satisfaction Online Survey,’ among 300 mentees, 54.6% responded ‘very satisfied’ and 34.0% ‘satisfied.’ Regarding whether the program helped improve learning ability, 40.8% answered ‘very helpful’ and 44.7% said ‘helpful.’ Among 300 parents who participated in the survey, 63.2% responded ‘very satisfied’ and 30.4% ‘satisfied’ regarding overall program satisfaction. When asked if it helped improve learning ability, 43.6% answered ‘very helpful’ and 46.1% ‘helpful.’

At the completion ceremony, Kwon Se-hee, a senior at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and representative mentor, said, “I feel rewarded to have contributed to improving students’ learning abilities,” adding, “Above all, it was a valuable time to grow together with friends.” Omisoon, a representative parent of a mentee, said, “I was very worried as the time not attending school due to COVID-19 lengthened, and it was frustrating that parents could not help, but I was fortunate to participate in Raenseon Yahak,” and added, “Seeing my child happily participate while looking forward to the lessons with the teacher made me glad and grateful.”

KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo stated, “As we conclude the grand journey of ‘Raenseon Yahak’ Season 1, KT created a place to share achievements and have conversations together,” and added, “KT will strive for ESG management that communicates and empathizes with future generations as Korea’s leading digital platform company, ‘Digico.’”

Meanwhile, KT will launch Raenseon Yahak Season 2 starting next month. This nationwide project will involve a total of 1,000 participants, including 750 mentees and 250 mentors, expanding participation opportunities for students in regions with relatively large learning gaps such as islands and mountainous areas.
