Military Landmine Victims Can Apply for Consolation Payments Until May
On the 28th, soldiers from the South-North Joint Remains Excavation Task Force were removing landmines in the Hwaseolmari Hill area, located within the Civilian Control Line in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Province, on the South Korean side. The Ministry of National Defense announced that from April 1 to May 22, a total of 321 remains were excavated, along with 22,808 personal effects.

The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 5th, "The application period for consolation money due to landmine explosion accident damages is until May 31," adding, "As the application deadline approaches, we plan to actively promote this to provide relief to as many victims suffering from landmine accidents as possible."
Victims and bereaved families of landmine accidents can apply for consolation money and medical support funds by visiting the 'Victim Support Deliberation Committee' under the Minister of National Defense in person or by mail.
Since the enforcement of the 'Special Act on Support for Landmine Victims' on April 16, 2015, until the end of last month, the Ministry of National Defense has received a total of 712 applications from landmine accident victims and their families. Among these, 486 cases were approved for payment, 92 were dismissed, 29 withdrawn, and 105 are under investigation and deliberation.
