View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The game 'League of Legends (LoL)' met classical music. Once considered a niche area for a long time, the game industry has recently experienced explosive growth, attracting attention through collaborations with various industries. In particular, the meeting of the traditionally conservative field of 'classical music' and gaming has caught the attention of the gaming industry.
According to Riot Games on the 3rd, 'League of Legends Live: The Orchestra' was held over two days, the previous day and the 3rd, at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This was the first time a game-themed performance was held at the Sejong Center. Both performances were sold out.
The performance captured the world of the online game 'LoL,' which has over 100 million monthly active users (MAU) worldwide, and the stories within it through orchestral melodies. The KBS Symphony Orchestra's performance and game music specialist conductor Jin Sol reportedly captivated the audience. A large number of songs that stirred the emotions of LoL fans were prepared, including the representative background music of the LoL universe, 'Warriors' and 'Awaken,' as well as 'Pentakill Medley,' which captured the thrilling moments of the battlefield.
This performance also introduced 'interactive content.' During the show, reactions such as emoticons sent directly by the audience using mobile devices were displayed on a large screen on stage. This provided the audience with the fun of co-creating the performance.
Goo Gihyang, Head of Public Relations at Riot Games, stated, "This performance is an opportunity to deliver the joy of 'LoL' more powerfully both musically and visually to game users and classical music audiences."
As the influence of games grows, 'game music' is emerging as a blue ocean in the performing arts world. This is because, in addition to traditional classical audiences, new game users are being attracted. Moreover, the quality of game music has significantly improved.
Recently, singer Taeyeon drew attention by singing the OST of NPIXEL's MMORPG 'Gran Saga,' and global musician Alan Walker participated in the OST of 'Battlegrounds.' An industry insider said, "Recently, as much effort is being put into music as into game content," adding, "It has become common to seek out famous foreign artists."
