[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] Young lawmakers of the Democratic Party of Korea have been issuing apologies daily in an effort to mend the deteriorating public sentiment.
On the 1st, Democratic Party lawmaker Oh Younghwan apologized, saying, "I cannot begin to fathom the anger of the people. As a member of this group, I feel a heavy responsibility. I humbly reflect on this and will prioritize eradicating real estate speculation and unfairness without exception, using the LH scandal as a turning point in national policy."
In a post on his Facebook page that day, Oh said, "Since the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in administration, the Democratic Party has made numerous efforts such as prosecutorial reform. However, we failed to prevent unfair practices like real estate speculation and the LH scandal, and we did not closely examine housing policies."
He continued, "Though it is shameless and embarrassing, I earnestly appeal. Please give a chance to candidate Park Youngsun, who will make Seoul a safer city than today."
He also stated, "Candidate Oh Se-hoon’s reckless remark on January 20, 2009, when he dismissed the anger of evictees who lost their homes in the cold winter as merely 'excessive and careless violent acts,' clearly shows his complete lack of empathy for the tragic loss of precious lives of residents and police officers engulfed in flames that day, driving another deep nail into the hearts of the bereaved families."
Earlier, Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Yonggi also issued an apology on the 31st of last month, saying, "The people trusted the Democratic Party to create a fair society and gave us a huge majority of 180 seats, but we failed to build the fair society that young people desire and only caused disappointment."

On the same day, Oh said on his Facebook, "As a young lawmaker representing the 20s and 30s generation in the ruling party, I want to apologize to the 20s and 30s generation who are angry at the Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party. Real estate prices are soaring daily, and it is impossible to succeed with just a paycheck. Situations like the LH scandal, where only 'insiders' can succeed, have been created. As a young lawmaker, I deeply feel responsible and apologize."
