[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun expressed concern on the 2nd, stating, "The daily average number of (COVID-19) confirmed cases has stagnated at 300 to 400 for a long time, but this week, it has recorded over 500 cases for three consecutive days," adding, "It is a very precarious situation to the extent that it worries us whether COVID-19 is taking a breather at the beginning of the 4th wave."
On the same day, Prime Minister Chung chaired the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting at the Government Seoul Office and said, "The concern is very high as infections are gradually spreading not only in the metropolitan area but also in other regions."
He stated, "We must not repeat the situation last winter when the 3rd wave intensified and the number of confirmed cases in the 500s doubled in just five days," and urged, "Since outings and movements are expected to increase further during this weekend including Easter, please maintain vigilance regarding quarantine."
He continued, "Epidemiological investigations of several recent cluster infection cases revealed that infections often spread due to delayed diagnostic testing of symptomatic individuals," emphasizing, "Medical institutions and pharmacies should actively encourage visitors showing suspicious symptoms such as fever to get tested without fail."

Prime Minister Chung stressed, "The government's quarantine efforts alone cannot stop the 4th wave," and added, "Now, more than ever, the practice of each and every citizen is crucial." He further appealed, "The ban on gatherings of five or more people remains a key rule to be observed," and earnestly requested, "We sincerely ask for the mature civic consciousness and active participation in quarantine from the public."
