View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A miracle occurred when a British teenager who was declared brain dead suddenly came back to life just before undergoing organ donation surgery.
According to Metro and others on the 31st (local time), Lewis Roberts (18) was hit by a passing truck on the 13th in Leek, Staffordshire, in the West Midlands of England.
Roberts suffered a fatal head injury and was airlifted by emergency medical helicopter to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Four days later, doctors declared Roberts brain dead and asked the family to prepare for their final goodbyes.
The family agreed to donate all of Roberts' organs to seven recipients, following the hospital's proposal.
While the family was waiting for Roberts' organ donation surgery, a miracle happened.
Roberts, who was dependent on a ventilator, suddenly blinked his eyes just hours before the organ donation and began breathing on his own again, with his heart starting to beat. The hospital monitor's graph moved, indicating that breathing was occurring.
The doctors initially looked incredulous but soon realized that a miracle had happened.
The family encouraged his breathing by his bedside.
Finally, when Roberts was confirmed to be breathing on his own, the family shed tears of joy.
The family expressed their happiness, saying, "Lewis, who was said to have no chance of survival, has awakened."
His sister, Jade Roberts (28), announced via Facebook on the 26th, a week later, that her brother was able to breathe without a ventilator.
However, on the 28th, she reported that he was put back on a ventilator due to a chest infection.
