20 Years of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power... Leap to an 'Eco-Friendly Integrated Energy Company'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) unveiled its future vision to leap forward as an eco-friendly comprehensive energy company on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
On the 1st, KHNP held a founding anniversary ceremony at its headquarters in Gyeongju, attended by about 100 people including President Jeong Jae-hoon and employees.
During the event, which was broadcast live via the company’s internal broadcasting system, congratulatory messages from the government, academia, and industry were delivered, and a lecture titled "The Phono Sapiens Era, The Path KHNP Should Take" by Professor Choi Jae-boong of Sungkyunkwan University was presented via video. A vision declaration ceremony was also held to announce KHNP’s leap forward as an eco-friendly comprehensive energy company equipped with various clean energy sources such as renewables, overseas projects, and hydrogen, built upon the foundation of its core nuclear power competitiveness.
Following this, President Jeong and employees planted an Ipap tree in front of the headquarters, symbolizing their commitment to "safely producing energy that makes the lives of the people comfortable."
President Jeong said, "KHNP has gained resilience by overcoming difficulties over the past 20 years," and urged, "Let us build a company that remains unshaken for a thousand years, values basics and principles, and is trusted."

KHNP, which was spun off from Korea Electric Power Corporation on April 2, 2001, started with 16 nuclear reactors, 21 hydroelectric plants, and a capacity of 14,000 megawatts (MW). It has since grown into a company with 24 nuclear reactors, 21 hydroelectric plants, 16 pumped-storage plants, and a capacity of 29,000 MW.
