Oh Se-hoon: "Repaying COVID-19 Medical Staff with Policies Reflecting On-site Voices"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, expressed gratitude for the dedication of medical staff related to COVID-19, stating, "We will repay the hard work of medical personnel with support and policies that actively reflect the voices from the field."
After visiting Seoul Medical Center on the 1st, Oh posted on social media (SNS), "Words of thanks are not enough. Still, I am truly grateful."
Oh introduced, "Seoul Medical Center was designated as a dedicated COVID-19 hospital from February 20 last year," adding, "The entire inpatient ward was converted into a negative pressure ward for treating COVID-19 patients, and it operates the largest number of COVID-19 beds nationwide." He continued, "The people I met on site looked exhausted, but they still smiled."
He said, "The sweat-soaked protective suits, the bandages on their faces, every visible detail was heartbreaking," emphasizing, "The efforts of medical staff should not be met with a one-sided demand for ‘sacrifice’ under the name of ‘heroes.’ Instead of focusing solely on promoting K-quarantine and K-syringes, proper treatment and guarantees must be provided to the medical personnel working on the front lines."
Oh pointed out, "Everyone knows that the only hope to end COVID-19 is ‘vaccination,’ but our country’s vaccine procurement was delayed, resulting in a vaccination rate of only 1.6%." He noted, "The goal is herd immunity by November this year, but frontline experts believe this is practically difficult," adding, "The public is already exhausted from this prolonged battle."
He stated, "It is more important than anything to establish sustainable quarantine guidelines and response systems," and said, "We must reduce public fatigue and maximize the effect of social distancing while minimizing business losses by building customized quarantine manuals that reflect the characteristics of each industry."
