Mayor Lee personally demonstrated the entire process from signing up for the public delivery app, ordering food, registering the Gwangju Sangsaeng Card, to making payments from the user's perspective, checking for any potential inconveniences for users.
He then listened to opinions from small business owners who received deliveries regarding participation and usage of the Gwangju public delivery app, including subscription fees and commissions, and had lunch with delivery food while discussing activation plans for the public delivery app such as franchise registration status, citizen promotion, and linkage plans with traditional markets' delivery services.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, "For small business owners and self-employed people who have suffered greatly due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, this will reduce the burden caused by commissions, and citizens can receive various benefits such as the Gwangju Sangsaeng Card and discount coupons, which is expected to greatly help revitalize the local economy. I hope citizens will use the public delivery app, which is good for users and also revitalizes neighborhood commercial districts, extensively."
The Gwangju public delivery app has no franchise registration fees or advertising fees, and applies a very low commission rate of 2% (with 1% consumer payback accumulation), compared to the existing delivery apps' intermediary commissions of 6.8% to 12.5%.
As of the 29th of last month, a total of 2,619 franchises have been registered, including 1,754 stores that have completed registration and 865 stores awaiting registration, showing great interest from small business owners since the pilot operation began.
Gwangju City plans to cooperate with the Central Association of Food Service, Franchise Association, Small Business Federation, and Market Merchants Association to have more than 5,000 franchises registered by the end of the year.
