Seo Hoon Arrives in New York... Start of ROK-US-Japan National Security Advisors Meeting Schedule
Scheduled to Attend Meeting After Checking New York North America Channel
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Seo Hoon, Director of the National Security Office at the Blue House, arrived in the United States on the 31st (local time) to attend the South Korea-U.S.-Japan security chiefs meeting.
Seo, along with Kim Hyung-jin, Deputy Director of the National Security Office, and Kim Jun-gu, Secretary for Peace Planning, arrived at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York City on the same day.
After reviewing the North Korea-New York channel, Seo is expected to move to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where the South Korea-U.S.-Japan security chiefs meeting will be held.
This is the first time the South Korea-U.S.-Japan security chiefs meeting has been held in person since the Biden administration took office.
The meeting is expected to discuss current issues such as North Korea's denuclearization, response to the novel coronavirus infection, and climate change measures.
Separately from the South Korea-U.S.-Japan meeting, Seo plans to meet with Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor at the White House National Security Council (NSC), to discuss North Korea policy and other issues.
Since the U.S. side has emphasized trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan in responding to North Korea's nuclear and missile issues, attention is also focused on whether discussions to improve South Korea-Japan relations will take place at this meeting.
