Additional Acquisition of 'Apache-class' Helicopters for the Military
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The military has decided to additionally procure large-scale attack helicopters equivalent to the 'Apache' class. Apache helicopters are capable of conducting operations day and night and in all weather conditions, and are regarded as the highest-performance attack helicopters currently available.
On the 31st, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration held the 134th Defense Acquisition Promotion Committee meeting via video conference and reviewed and approved the basic strategy for promoting the acquisition of the second phase of the large-scale attack helicopter project through overseas procurement.
The second phase of the large-scale attack helicopter project aims to guarantee offensive deep maneuver operations of ground forces and to transition from a troop-centered ground force structure to a three-dimensional high-speed maneuverable force structure. A total project cost of approximately 3.17 trillion KRW will be invested from 2022 to 2028.
