US State Department Orders Withdrawal of Non-Essential Staff and Families from Myanmar... "Unstable Situation in Myanmar"

Democratic Forces Also Form Military Units...Likely to Escalate into Civil War
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The U.S. Department of State has issued a departure order and evacuation directive for non-essential personnel and their families stationed in Myanmar. This move is interpreted as a measure to protect U.S. citizens amid escalating civil war tensions, as Myanmar's pro-democracy forces discuss forming a federal army with ethnic minority insurgents, and clashes between the Myanmar government forces and insurgents intensify.
According to the Associated Press and major foreign media on the 30th (local time), the U.S. Department of State issued a departure order for Americans residing in Myanmar, including non-essential personnel and their families, citing political instability in Myanmar. The State Department warned, "In addition to the ongoing nationwide resistance and protests in Myanmar, armed violence may occur in several regions such as Matupi in Chin State and Bhamo and Mogaung in Kachin State."
This measure is seen as a response to recent developments where Myanmar's pro-democracy camp is discussing the formation of a federal army in alliance with ethnic minority insurgents from various regions, and as battles between insurgents and Myanmar's regular army have escalated into large-scale conflicts, prompting the protection of U.S. nationals within Myanmar. Currently, ethnic minority insurgent groups such as the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in northern Kachin State have engaged in more than ten clashes with Myanmar insurgents over the past week. Notably, fighting near the borders with China and Thailand has raised concerns about possible military involvement from these countries.

Protests in Myanmar have also been met with violent crackdowns, resulting in over 500 deaths and ongoing bloodshed. The pro-democracy group leading the protests, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), is reportedly conducting fundraising efforts aimed at forming a federal army in alliance with ethnic minority insurgents.
