Wildfire in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, Being Extinguished with Deployment of Korea Forest Service's Super Large Helicopter and Others
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A forest fire broke out in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, and the forestry authorities have launched firefighting efforts.
According to the Central Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service on the 30th, the fire occurred around 2:11 PM near Tanggok-ri, Gagok-myeon, Samcheok-si, Gangwon Province.
The Korea Forest Service is currently deploying seven helicopters, including a super-large firefighting helicopter, and 102 firefighting personnel to the site to carry out suppression operations.
They are also taking preemptive measures such as establishing firebreaks to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas.
Strong winds with a speed of 4.6 m/s are currently reported in Samcheok.

Ko Rak-sam, head of the Central Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service, said, “We will deploy all available firefighting resources to ensure the fire is quickly extinguished.”
