Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conducts Safety Check for Overseas Koreans Following US Serial Shooting Incident
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that on the 30th, under the chairmanship of Vice Minister Choi Jong-moon, a video conference was held with heads of diplomatic missions in the North American region to check the safety situation of overseas Koreans.
The meeting began with a moment of silence for the four overseas Koreans who died in the series of shootings that occurred on the 16th in Atlanta, USA, and various countermeasures related to hate crimes were discussed.
Specifically, cooperation with the U.S. federal, local governments, and Congress to prevent hate crimes, enhancing the image of Koreans and Korea in the U.S., supporting Korean community activities linked with other communities such as Asian and Pacific communities, and measures to improve infrastructure related to follow-up actions for hate crime prevention and response were mentioned.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "We will do our best efforts including the above measures to prevent damage and ensure the safety of overseas Koreans," and added, "We will also make proactive preventive efforts for other countries where hate crimes are a concern."
