The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, 384 new domestic COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 102,141. By infection route, 370 were locally transmitted cases, and 14 were imported cases.
By region, 105 cases were confirmed in Seoul and 130 in Gyeonggi Province. In Incheon, 18 people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the metropolitan area to 253. In non-metropolitan areas, cases were reported as follows: 53 in Busan, 18 in Gyeongnam, 12 in Chungbuk, 9 in Daegu, 8 in Jeonbuk, 6 in Gangwon, 3 each in Ulsan and Gyeongbuk, 2 each in Gwangju and Daejeon, and 1 in Chungnam. There were no additional cases reported in Sejong, Jeonnam, and Jeju.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 4 from the previous day, reaching 1,726. The number of critically ill patients decreased by 4 to 100. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 269 to 94,124.
The decrease in the number of confirmed cases on this day appears to be influenced by the weekend effect. The number of suspected case tests reported was 20,735, and the number of tests conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area was 16,140, totaling less than 40,000 tests. At the metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 69 confirmed cases were identified.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight on this day, 11 new first-dose vaccinations were administered, bringing the total number of people who completed the first dose to 793,966. No new second-dose vaccinations were added from the previous day, maintaining a cumulative total of 5,232. So far, 733,586 people have received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 60,380 have received the Pfizer vaccine.
