Chinese State-Affiliated Scholars: After the EU, US, and Canada, Next Is the 'Quad'
14 Billion Chinese People Join Boycott Movement Amid US-China Conflict
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China is fiercely determined to fight back, imposing sanctions on the United States and Canada following retaliatory sanctions against the European Union (EU) over the Xinjiang Uyghur human rights issue. These retaliatory sanctions against the US and Canada are interpreted as a message from the Chinese leadership that it will never back down on its core interests, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang Uyghur, and South China Sea sovereignty.
On the evening of the 27th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced sanctions on certain individuals and organizations in the US and Canada related to the Xinjiang Uyghur issue.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the US and Canada of imposing sanctions on China based on lies and false information. It listed Gale Manchin, Chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Tony Perkins, Vice Chair, Canadian MP Michael Chong, and the International Human Rights Subcommittee within the Canadian Parliament on the sanctions list. These individuals and organizations are banned from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Transactions with Chinese citizens and institutions are also prohibited.
The Ministry stated, "The Chinese government is firmly determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests," urging "relevant countries to accurately recognize the situation, correct their mistakes, stop political manipulation of the Xinjiang issue, and cease any form of interference in internal affairs." It also warned, "The more one goes down the wrong path, the further one will stray, and otherwise, they will inevitably reap what they sow."
Chinese state media also supported this stance of the Chinese authorities. On the 28th, the People's Daily editorial reported, "China will not succumb to any political intimidation, and China's will and determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests are unwavering." It warned that some politicians in the Western camp cannot stop the flow of history and that if they continue foolish actions, they will pay the price.
The Global Times criticized the US, accusing the Chinese government of leading a boycott campaign against global companies related to the 'H&M' boycott in China, claiming this is an attempt by the US government to incite conflicts between multinational corporations and China. The outlet emphasized that the responsibility for the boycott campaign against multinational companies in China lies entirely with the US and stressed that the boycott reflects Chinese public sentiment.

Regarding the Xinjiang issue, China's countermeasures are translating into actions by the Chinese people, suggesting that future US-China conflicts may tread a precarious path. Until now, verbal exchanges in the form of verbal attacks have occurred between the two governments, but now 1.4 billion Chinese people have joined the US-China conflict. If the boycott against global companies intensifies among the Chinese, the Chinese leadership will have more retaliatory cards to play against the Western camp. In fact, Chinese state-affiliated scholars have warned that the next sanction target will be the US-led anti-China bloc, the 'Quad.' Currently, the Quad member countries are the US, Australia, India, and Japan.
