The introduction of electric vehicle taxis is gaining rapid momentum.
Independent taxi cooperatives affiliated with the Daejeon Taxi Cooperative, including the Boryeong Transport Cooperative and Woori Hope Taxi Cooperative, recently agreed with electric charging station company J& C Plan to promote the transition to electric vehicle taxis. The taxi cooperatives will replace existing LPG taxis with electric vehicles such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA EV6. J& C Plan will additionally install and operate 100 kW and 350 kW ultra-fast chargers in the Daejeon area.
Choi Sang-gyu, chairman of the Independent Taxi Cooperative, stated, "Existing electric vehicles required more than 50 minutes to charge, but the E-GMP-based electric vehicles released this year only take 20 minutes." He added, "We judged that it would be feasible to apply them to taxis." He expressed confidence, saying, "With the help of J& C Plan, even the charger issues have been resolved, allowing us to establish them as an eco-friendly means of transportation."
Jung Hyun-gyun, CEO of J& C Plan, said, "To operate an electric vehicle taxi for 250 km, charging is required at least once a day," and added, "We will contribute to establishing an eco-friendly transportation system through ultra-fast charging facilities and convenience amenities."

The promotion also benefited from the support of local governments. The Daejeon city government provides an additional subsidy of 2 million won for electric vehicle taxis. It also supports 50% of the price difference between LPG taxis and electric vehicle taxis. An official explained, "The price, which was the biggest obstacle, has stabilized, giving momentum to the transition."
