As confirmed cases show signs of recent increase, quarantine authorities are on high alert.
On the 27th, 56 additional COVID-19 confirmed cases were reported in Busan, including infections related to welfare facilities and entertainment bars.
This is the first time since January 27th, when 52 cases were confirmed, that more than 50 cases have been reported in a single day in Busan.
Busan city quarantine authorities announced that 56 people tested positive for COVID-19, including 4 on the afternoon of the 26th and 52 by the morning of the 27th. The cumulative number of confirmed cases has risen to 3,642.
At a senior day care facility in Yeonje-gu, Busan, where 4 workers were confirmed positive on the 26th, an additional 20 people (1 worker and 19 users) tested positive.
The number of confirmed cases related to this facility has increased to 24 (5 workers and 19 users).
This facility is used by elderly people who have received long-term care grades, and it is believed that close contact occurred as workers assisted users with meals.
Chain infection cases related to a refrigeration company in Seo-gu, Busan, have also continued.
Among the additional confirmed cases, besides family members and acquaintances of contacts, many confirmed cases related to entertainment establishments visited by infected contacts have also been reported.
On this day, the additional confirmed cases included 1 church contact, 4 family members and colleagues of contacts, and 14 entertainment establishment contacts.
As of this day, confirmed cases related to the refrigeration company and entertainment establishments have increased to 36, including 8 company employees, 2 family members, 12 related contacts, and 14 entertainment establishment workers.
It has been found that confirmed entertainment establishment workers have effectively worked throughout Busan, raising concerns that infections related to entertainment establishments will spread.
Investigations revealed that confirmed cases and contacts related to these entertainment establishments worked at multiple entertainment venues mainly in Dong-gu, Jung-gu, Seo-gu, and Yeongdo-gu districts of Busan.
Since it is difficult to identify users of entertainment establishments and workers have been found to work practically throughout Busan beyond the original downtown area, concerns about the spread of infection have increased.
