Jeonnam Province: "Turn off lights for 1 hour at 8:30 PM on the 27th"
Join the 'Earth Hour' Campaign for Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province will participate in the 'Earth Hour' campaign, which involves turning off the lights in the government office for one hour to achieve carbon neutrality (Net-Zero) by 2050.
The province announced on the 26th that it plans to turn off all the lights in the provincial government office for one hour starting at 8:30 PM on the 27th to raise public awareness about the importance of carbon neutrality.
The 'Earth Hour' campaign is a global nature conservation campaign hosted annually by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the world's largest private nature conservation organization.
It raises awareness about the severity of the climate change crisis and promotes the realization of a decarbonized society by conducting a lights-out campaign for one hour on the last Saturday night of March every year.
The campaign started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and currently involves over 18,000 landmarks, government agencies, and companies across 188 countries worldwide.
Son Jeomsik, Director of the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Autonomy and Administration, said, "Since 2021 was declared the inaugural year of carbon neutrality, this campaign will serve as an opportunity for residents to reflect on what must be done to overcome the climate crisis and protect future generations," adding, "We hope for active participation from households and businesses as well."
