[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 26th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 25th that it will hold the "Disaster Safety Industry Promotion Council" via video conference to review ongoing projects and discuss the mid- to long-term direction for promoting the disaster safety industry.
The council was formed for the first time this year to provide a platform for public and private sectors to discuss disaster safety industry promotion policies and exchange ideas. It consists of 30 members, including private experts from safety-related public institutions, academia, and associations, as well as local government officials actively fostering the safety industry through ordinances for safety industry development. Among them, private experts were diversely selected by field based on recommendations from local governments and public institutions. Three subcommittees focusing on infrastructure establishment, technology promotion, and market development will also be operated according to the stages of industrial development.
The meeting held on the 26th will be the first since the council's formation, with experts from all three subcommittees participating to discuss the council's composition and operational direction. Under the theme of "Directions for Fostering the Disaster Safety Industry," the meeting will review ongoing projects related to the disaster safety industry and discuss mid- to long-term strategies.
Starting with this first meeting, the council plans to activate subcommittee meetings and small group meetings, operating flexibly according to topics, and expand participation at each stage such as policy formulation and decision-making to enhance the council's effectiveness. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety intends to actively reflect the council's advisory results in policies and create advanced cases of collaboration between central and local governments and public and private sectors.
