Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Urgently Rescues Drifting Vessel Near Guryongpo Port, Gyeongbuk
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 24th at around 7:20 AM that it had urgently rescued and towed the 68-ton Sokcho-registered nearshore trap fishing vessel D, which was drifting due to battery discharge about 13 km east of Guryongpo Port, Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk Province. There were 2 crew members on board.
Vessel D was navigating near Guryongpo Port, an area with heavy ship traffic, at around 5:33 AM on the 24th, but the engine stalled and the battery was discharged, making self-navigation impossible, so it requested rescue from the East Sea Fisheries Management Unit.
In response, the East Sea Fisheries Management Unit urgently dispatched the Mugunghwa 21, which was performing illegal fishing crackdowns and guiding safe operations of Korean fishing vessels in the East Sea area, to the scene. After towing the vessel to the outer harbor of Guryongpo Port, Pohang-si, it safely handed over the vessel to a tugboat arranged by the owner at around 8:20 AM.
