Gimpo City Confirms 68 Land Transactions by Public Officials... Investigation Underway for Speculation
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it confirmed a total of 68 land transaction cases after investigating whether 1,624 affiliated public officials had conducted land transactions.
The period of land acquisition ranged from 1988 to 2017, and most cases were identified as acquisitions through inheritance or gifts. Gimpo City is investigating whether the public officials who acquired the land used confidential information related to their duties. Additionally, the investigation will be expanded to include spouses and direct relatives of affiliated public officials, members of the Gimpo City Council, and employees of the Gimpo Urban Corporation.
This investigation began on the 9th to verify whether Gimpo City public officials engaged in real estate speculation. The investigation targets land transactions conducted between 2000 and 2021 within 12.1㎢ of 38 development project sites in the jurisdiction.

Jung Ha-young, Mayor of Gimpo City, stated, "If real estate speculation is proven, regardless of rank or status, we will report the individuals to judicial authorities and impose personnel disadvantages. We will conduct a thorough investigation to leave no room for even a shred of suspicion."
