KBS to Cut 12% of Positions Including Directors... Self-Help Measures for License Fee Increase
"Consolidation of Similar and Duplicate Tasks"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] KBS has proposed a plan to reduce positions such as directors, department heads, and team leaders by 12%. This is part of the self-help efforts recently advocated to support the increase in license fees.
According to KBS on the 22nd, the recently prepared amendment to the enforcement rules of the organizational regulations includes reducing the 556 director, department head, and team leader positions to 489 in order to consolidate similar and overlapping tasks. The number of directors will decrease from 52 to 46, department heads from 155 to 137, and team leaders from 349 to 306. It is judged that reducing positions will cut costs and allowances required to maintain these roles.
Personnel at the director and department levels will also be reduced by 10% each. Measures such as task reassignment and natural attrition through retirement are expected to be considered.
To emphasize its role as a public broadcaster, the disaster broadcasting organization will be strengthened. The Disaster Broadcasting Center will be expanded and reinforced with personnel, placed directly under the head of the news division, and the center chief, previously at the department head level, will be promoted to the deputy general manager level. Additionally, the announcer office will remain with its three departments intact, while the drama and entertainment centers will increase the number of CPs (Chief Producers).
