Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Collaborates with UAE Nuclear Corporation on Korean-Style New Generation Reactor R&D
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed a research and development (R&D) cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) of the United Arab Emirates on the 22nd for the R&D and technology exchange of the Korean-designed advanced pressurized water reactor (APR1400) exported to the UAE.
With the signing of the MOU, the two organizations will cooperate on R&D in nine fields including nuclear power plant equipment and radiochemistry over the next three years, and will operate working groups by field for this purpose. This is evaluated as a result reflecting KHNP's excellent nuclear power technology and research achievements based on the trust built between the two governments for the development of the nuclear industry.
It is also expected to contribute not only to the stable operation of the UAE Barakah nuclear power plant in the future but also to the promotion of technology exchange of the Korean APR1400 nuclear power plant in the Middle East region. KHNP anticipated that commercialization by R&D field will also lead to sharing business performance and expanding business opportunities.
