Securing 2 Billion KRW in National Funds... Expected to Solve Community Issues and Improve Citizens' Quality of Life
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 22nd that it has been finally selected for the 'Smart Town Challenge Project Contest' conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Smart Town Challenge Project is a contest aimed at creating regionally specialized smart towns in specific areas within small and medium-sized cities and establishing a foundation for spreading smart solutions to other local governments through demonstration.
Since August last year, the city has been accelerating the establishment of a master plan to create a smart town in the Kumho-dong area by signing the 'Smart Town Challenge MP Establishment Service'.
As a result of submitting the project plan through various activities such as working-level consultative meetings among related departments, citizen (Kumho-dong residents) participation living labs, on-site inspections, idea contests, and advice from expert advisory committees, the city earned the honor of final selection.
The selected 'Smart Town Challenge Project' will invest a total project cost of 4 billion KRW (2 billion KRW from the national government and 2 billion KRW from the city) to establish ▲ three types of smart solutions for recycling waste resources (smart trash bins, waste paper collection system, advanced large waste collection system) ▲ three types of smart solutions for air pollution monitoring (shared mobility, smart clean shelter, smart plant wall) ▲ and one eco platform for integration and linkage between systems, and will establish a social enterprise to build a citizen voluntary operation system.
