Ahead of UN Resolution Adoption... North Korea Says "Western Human Rights Violations Are the Most Critical Issue"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Ahead of the adoption of the North Korea human rights resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council on the 23rd, North Korea has criticized Western countries, including Europe and the United States, stating that "the real urgent issue is the human rights violations by the West." It also indirectly pointed to the recent Atlanta shooting incident by highlighting "discriminatory violent acts against women."
On the 21st, North Korea posted three articles titled "The Height of Black-and-White Propaganda," "Racial Discrimination by Western Countries Must Be Thoroughly Eradicated," and "Human Rights Criminals Talking About Human Rights" on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, making these claims.
In the article titled "The Height of Black-and-White Propaganda," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized, "Recently, at the UN human rights stage, Western countries, the main culprits of global human rights disruption and disasters, once again presumptuously raised issues about the 'human rights' situations of individual countries including ours under the banner of 'human rights advocacy,' provoking ridicule from people." This appears to refer to the UN Human Rights Council's efforts to adopt a North Korea human rights resolution again this year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Even at this moment, in Western countries, the working masses are becoming victims of crimes involving various firearms and weapons, and criminal violent groups are becoming generally dominant over society," adding, "Discriminatory violent acts against women are beyond words." This seems to refer to the Atlanta shooting incident targeting Asian women in the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out, "Looking at the realities of some Western countries alone, nearly 60% of working women suffer sexual harassment at workplaces, and numerous women, girls, and migrant women fall victim to human trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced labor, and various other abuses," emphasizing, "The reality of human rights violations in the West is the most urgent issue that the international community must correct."
This appears to express discomfort with the human rights criticisms from the UN and Western countries.

In the article titled "Racial Discrimination by Western Countries Must Be Thoroughly Eradicated," it stated, "The fact that police, who are supposed to maintain social order in the West, are notorious as perpetrators of racial discrimination crimes is itself a representative product of institutional racism," and criticized, "The West is a breeding ground for racial discrimination where police officers who beat a Black man to death during protest suppression are acquitted." This seems to be an indirect criticism of racial discrimination issues in the United States.
