Seoul City Supports Expansion of Online Sales Channels for Small Businesses... 1,200 Locations Selected
Entry of Small Business-Only Section in Large Shopping Malls... Supporting Sales Recovery Through Special Online Promotions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 22nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will focus on supporting small business owners with little experience in operating online shopping malls to enter the online market, in response to the prolonged consumption slump caused by COVID-19 and changes in shopping trends among the younger generation.
Since September last year, Seoul has supported small business owners by operating the SsolSsol Market within three online shopping malls hosting about 300 small business vendors and holding the special online event "Super Seoul Week," generating total sales of 18.5 billion KRW.
This year, the number of supported businesses has been significantly increased from 300 last year to 1,200. First, a dedicated section for small business owners called "Seoul SsolSsol Market" will be created within major domestic online shopping malls, allowing vendors to join with low commission fees. Additionally, special online events will be held in the first and second halves of the year to help increase actual sales.
In particular, beyond short-term and one-time support, customized education and consulting will be provided to help small business owners efficiently operate online shopping malls on their own, strengthening their capabilities.
Vendors will be selected based on growth potential and product competitiveness, with a final selection of 1,200 businesses. Small business owners wishing to participate can apply by April 9. The final selected vendors will be contacted individually in mid-April.

Kang Seok, Head of Small Business Policy at Seoul City, said, "With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, contactless consumption is rapidly increasing, and small-scale business owners who have not been able to participate in this consumption trend are facing greater difficulties. We will strengthen the capabilities of small business owners and expand support for online sales channels to help directly increase sales for small business owners struggling due to COVID-19."
