Completion of Gwanak-gu 'Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot'
To Improve Parking Environment in Nangok Area, 'Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot' with Total 41 Spaces Created... Contributing to Enhancing Quality of Life and Welfare of Local Residents by Alleviating Parking Shortage in Residential Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has completed the construction of the ‘Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot’ on the site around 652-63 Nangok-dong to alleviate parking difficulties for residents.
Nangok-dong, a representative densely populated residential area in the district, has been one of the areas most in need of expanding public parking lots due to chronic parking space shortages, frequent parking conflicts among residents, and serious pedestrian safety issues caused by illegal parking.
Accordingly, since 2018, the district established a basic plan and promoted budget securing and land acquisition for the ‘Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot’ project. Although there were many difficulties in acquiring the project site, by continuously explaining the necessity and justification of the project to the landowners and steadily gaining their understanding and persuasion, four plots of the entire project site were first purchased in December 2018.
In September 2019, the first phase of site preparation and retaining wall construction was carried out on the four initially purchased plots. Subsequently, continuous efforts to acquire the remaining plots led to the purchase of three additional plots in December 2019, completion of the last plot acquisition in June last year, and the start of construction in December last year.
As a key project of the 7th local government administration aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and welfare by resolving local parking difficulties, the expansion of public parking lots was actively promoted, resulting in the completion of the ‘Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot’ project.
With a total project cost of 5.118 billion KRW, the facility covers a site area of 1,221㎡, including one parking space for the disabled, totaling 41 parking spaces. After the transfer of facilities and operational preparations, the parking lot is scheduled to be fully operated by the Gwanak-gu Facilities Management Corporation in early April.
Notably, the name ‘Nangokmadang Public Parking Lot’ was selected through a free opinion collection process from Nangok residents to break away from the existing numeric naming style such as ‘No. 1 Public Parking Lot.’ This is the first case where the name was chosen based on residents’ recommendations, reflecting the most suitable name for the Nangok area.
