Park Young-jun, head of the Adverse Reaction Investigation Support Team at the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, explained during an online regular briefing that day in response to related questions, "MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) results confirmed cerebral venous thrombosis," adding, "We confirmed the opinion that cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) could be suspected."
CVST is one of the cases that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has stated it will conduct further analysis on, without excluding the association with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
However, the EMA has provisionally concluded that the AstraZeneca vaccine is not related to an overall increased risk of thrombosis.
Park said, "We are currently conducting tests on the causative factors," and added, "Once the results are out, the regional rapid response team and then the damage investigation committee will evaluate the association with vaccination."
The authorities stated that although the EMA does not exclude causality between the AstraZeneca vaccine and the very rare occurrence of thrombosis, there are currently no plans to change the vaccination schedule.
