9 Additional COVID-19 Cases in Gangwon Region... Sokcho City Raises Social Distancing to Level 2
Sokcho City Maintains Level 2 Until Midnight on the 28th
2 Cases Each in Goseong, Donghae, Wonju; 1 Case Each in Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Gangneung... Total Confirmed Cases in Province Reach 2,119
[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] On the 19th, 9 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the Gangwon region.
According to Gangwon Province health authorities, as of 5 PM that day, confirmed cases were reported as 2 each in Goseong, Donghae, and Wonju, and 1 each in Chuncheon, Hongcheon, and Gangneung.
The two confirmed cases in Goseong are women in their 40s to 50s who were identified as contacts of a confirmed case at an indoor sports facility in Sokcho. This brings the total number of cases related to the sports facility to 19.
Since the 12th, Sokcho City, which has recorded 58 confirmed cases to date, will raise its social distancing level from the current Level 1.5 to Level 2 from midnight on the 20th until midnight on the 28th.
This measure is in response to the spread of a cluster infection at multi-use facilities linked to the recent 112th confirmed case in the area, aiming to curb the spread of infection early by upgrading social distancing.
Accordingly, five types of high-risk facilities (entertainment bars, karaoke bars, hunting pubs, emotional bars, and colatecs), as well as holdem pubs, singing practice rooms, indoor standing concert halls, party rooms, and indoor sports facilities, are prohibited from operating from 10 PM to 5 AM the next day.
However, restaurants and cafes are only allowed takeout and delivery from 10 PM to 5 AM the next day, and wedding halls and funeral homes are limited to fewer than 100 people.
Sokcho City will conduct mass testing of all citizens daily from 10 AM to 6 PM until the 24th at a temporary testing site set up in the public parking lot in front of Seokbong Ceramic Art Museum.
Meanwhile, in Sokcho and Goseong, Gangwon, 32 local kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools suspended in-person classes on the 19th to prevent student infections.
Confirmed case A (age 76) in Goseong, who was receiving treatment at Sokcho Medical Center, deteriorated and was transferred to Gangwon National University Hospital on the 18th but passed away.
