Gwangju Police Strive to Secure 'Integrity' by Eradicating Collusion and Solicitation
1st Anti-Corruption Task Force Meeting Held... Commitment to Mindset Change and Organizational Culture Improvement Efforts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Police are making efforts to eradicate collusion and solicitations and to secure integrity.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency (Chief Kim Gyotae) announced on the 19th that it has formed an ‘Anti-Corruption Task Force (TF)’ and held its first regular meeting.
Recently, with the implementation of ‘investigative authority reform’ and the ‘autonomous police system,’ the role and responsibility of the police have increased, raising public expectations for integrity and fairness.
Accordingly, Gwangju Police decided to hold the ‘Anti-Corruption Task Force meetings’ quarterly to review and discuss ongoing policies.
They also plan to strengthen internal and external publicity of anti-corruption policies and focus on raising awareness and improving organizational culture.
At the meeting, they discussed the ‘Prohibition of inquiries about cases among staff’ system and the substantial operation of the ‘Private contact control system for police officer-turned lawyers, etc.’
The purpose is to fundamentally block cases where attempts are made to resolve cases through connections or friendships, or where the police are used as a channel for case or civil complaint solicitations.
The prohibition of inquiries about cases among staff is a system that completely bans internal police staff from inquiring about cases to case handlers, department heads, or station chiefs.
The private contact prohibition system for police officer-turned lawyers requires police officers working in investigation and enforcement departments to report if they have contact with lawyers or others who have retired from the police. It mandates reporting when there is private contact with retired police officers who have re-entered the legal profession within three years after retirement.
The Gwangju Police Agency plans to repeatedly promote these systems as means to refuse collusion and solicitations, monitor reporting status, and notify internally.
