Prosecution Seeks Prison Sentence for Ae Kyung Heir Cha Seung-seok in Appeal Trial over Propofol Use
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a prison sentence again in the appellate trial for former Aekyung Development CEO Chae Seung-seok, who was indicted on charges of habitual administration of the psychotropic sleep anesthetic 'Propofol.'
On the afternoon of the 18th, at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Appeal Division 9 (Presiding Judge Jang Jae-yoon), during the appellate trial sentencing hearing of former CEO Chae, the prosecution asked the court to "sentence as requested in the original trial." In the previous first trial, the prosecution sought 1 year and 6 months imprisonment and a fine of 45.32 million won. In his final statement, former CEO Chae pleaded, "I regret and reflect every single day without fail," and "Please give me a chance." He also said, "Although the crime is serious, I will definitely become a sincere and upright person." He was sentenced to 8 months in prison in the first trial and was detained in court but was released on bail in January this year and has been undergoing trial without detention.

Chae, the third son of Aekyung Group Chairwoman Jang Young-shin, was indicted on charges of habitual administration of Propofol at a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, from September 2017 to November 2019. He is also accused of conspiring with the head of the plastic surgery clinic to falsify medical records.
