20s Arrested for Stealing Foreign Car and Calling "Go Find the Puppy in the Passenger Seat"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-eun] A woman in her 20s who stole a foreign car left unattended by its owner during the daytime and drove it under the influence without a license contacted the car owner saying, "Come get the dog inside the car," and was caught by the police.
On the 18th, the Gwangju Western Police Station announced that they have booked and are investigating a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, on charges of theft and violation of the Road Traffic Act for driving a stolen car without a license while intoxicated.
Ms. A is accused of stealing a BMW vehicle that was parked near a middle school in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, around 12:30 PM on the 17th, and driving it approximately 3.4 km to her home in Juwol-dong, Nam-gu.
According to the investigation, Ms. A committed the crime while the car owner briefly left the vehicle with the engine running to buy food.
However, immediately after the crime, Ms. A called the victim because the dog sitting in the passenger seat kept barking, informing the owner of her location and telling them to "come get the dog." The police used this information to apprehend Ms. A.
Ms. A had previously obtained a driver's license but had it revoked once and did not reacquire it, so she was driving without a license. At the time of arrest, her blood alcohol concentration was 0.048%, which is the level for license suspension.
