Human Rights Commissioner Choi Young-ae Sends Letter to International Human Rights Organizations... "Expressing Solidarity and Support for Myanmar's Democratization Movement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Choi Young-ae, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, sent a letter on the 18th urging international human rights organizations to actively respond to the situation in Myanmar to the Chairpersons of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF).
Chairperson Choi serves as the Vice Chairperson of the APF and a member of the GANHRI Executive Board.
In the letter, Chairperson Choi expressed concern over the situation in Myanmar, where numerous casualties have occurred, and requested a response at the level of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. She also shared the historical experience of the May 18 Democratic Uprising and called for the international community to express solidarity and support for the current Myanmar pro-democracy movement, urging voices to be raised for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar and the cessation of human rights violations against its citizens.

The National Human Rights Commission stated, "We will continue to make efforts to overcome the serious human rights crisis in Myanmar through cooperation and solidarity with the international community."
