Muan-gun, Integrated Operation of the Happiness Call Center 'Muan-gun Family Center'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeonnam (Governor Kim San) announced on the 18th that the Muan County Family Center (Director Oh Mae-ja) has been newly integrated and operated together with the Healthy Family Support Center, which serves not only the Multicultural Family Support Center but also all 90,000 county residents' families since 2019.
The Muan County Family Center is a family welfare specialized institution designated by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and has been playing a vital role as a local community hub and a happiness call center where happiness and laughter bloom in all households of Muan County.
The center first opened in 2009 as a multicultural support center targeting about 600 marriage immigrant women and has played a key role in enhancing relationships within multicultural families and their early settlement in Korean society.
Additionally, it provides customized programs reflecting the characteristics of 40 children of school age from multicultural families to improve parent-child relationships, social development, and future planning. It also supports 60 multicultural family home education cases, manages 20 multicultural family cases, and offers care services for weakened families, as well as customized family function enhancement services tailored to family type characteristics.
To strengthen the functions of the Healthy Family Support Center, the Muan Happy Couple School, aimed at promoting healthy marital relationships, has been operated since 2019. This year, the third term is recruiting 15 families, 30 people, to revitalize dulled married life. Family counseling is also permanently operated to expand family support services and strengthen customized services by life cycle.
Moreover, unlike other cities and counties, Muan County provides generous support for multicultural families, investing 120 million KRW annually in differentiated programs such as employment schools for marriage immigrant women, home visit projects for multicultural families, vitamin cultural programs, and a one-on-one mentoring project for children of multicultural families with students from Chodang University, actively leading support for multicultural families.
As a new project this year, the ‘Healing Day with Family’ program will be operated, offering various non-face-to-face family-friendly cultural programs that family members exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can participate in together.
As a key project, the family center construction project, selected in 2020 by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, will invest 3 billion KRW (including 1.5 billion KRW in national funds) to establish the family center on the first floor of the Muan-eup Kkumteul-i Complex Center on the site of the old traditional market in Muan-eup, aiming for completion in 2022.
