Seoul City Expands Public Parking Lot Access... 'Thankful Sharing Parking' Signs for Lots with 30 or More Spaces
Regulation Revision to Resolve Issues Such as Illegal Parking, Safety Accidents, and Support Periods
Over 1,700 Additional Affiliated Parking Spaces This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 18th that it will reorganize the support system for opening private parking lots this year and will provide "Thankful Sharing Parking Lot" signboards as a mandatory support for those opening more than 30 parking spaces.
Through the Seoul private parking lot opening support project, a total of 626 locations with 15,097 spaces have been opened from 2007 to 2020, providing parking convenience to citizens, and more than 1,700 additional private parking spaces will be added this year.
Furthermore, Seoul plans to link information on private parking lots opened without regular ticket allocation to the "Seoul Parking Information" app and website so that the general public can use them. It will also promote excellent cases of private parking lots to autonomous districts and citizens through online SNS and videos to enhance the value of the project and improve negative perceptions.
In particular, last year, related regulations were significantly revised to resolve issues that made opening private parking lots difficult, such as illegal parking, safety accidents, and support periods. Measures include towing of illegally parked vehicles and the introduction of additional support benefits for opening agreements of two years or more.
Citizens wishing to participate in the private parking lot opening project can apply through the relevant autonomous district or the "Seoul Parking Information" website. After an on-site investigation by the responsible staff, an agreement for opening the parking lot is signed, and operation can begin immediately.
